This entry is from our Expert Guest series where wedding and honeymoon professionals share their best tips on creating memories that last a lifetime.
Since we’re coming up to festival season, we thought those of you planning an alternative wedding would appreciate a little ˜wedfest’ inspiration! Festival-style weddings are really popular this year and with the trend growing, there are more and more quirky ideas to incorporate into your fun fiesta! We can’t wait to show you our top tips to create your own festival wedding¦
Creating Your Festival-Style Wedding
#1. Flower Crowns
From Secret Garden Party to Bestival and Wilderness, flower crowns are everywhere! Wearing flowers in your hair is a must-have for the festival bride. Not only do they look amazing, but they complement pretty much any hair style be it short, long, up, down, braided or untouched. You could opt for a statement flower crown filled with blooms or a more subtle, delicate one with dainty florals
#2. Bunting
Whether it’s traditional triangular, made of crochet, fabric tassels or something different again, bunting can transform your venue – it really adds to the whole festival vibe of the wedding and will bring the look to life. It comes in all colours, shapes and sizes so get creative with your décor and let your imagination run wild. Wherever you choose to use it, hanging from trees, inside your giant tipi (definitely!), tied to the backs of chairs or to create mini bunting cake topper, be sure to include it in your day!
#3. Tipis
What would a festival wedding be without a giant tipi reception?! Your guests will have so much fun partying the night away in one of these beauties. They are so versatile in their structure and the options for decorating them are endless¦ Use festoon lights and wild flower garlands to frame the entrance, adorn the wooden poles with fairy lights or colourful scarves, have a chill out area with a fire pit in the centre to toast marshmallows. Why not hire a smaller tipi and create a photo booth with festival props for you and your guests to enjoy into the evening?
#4. Mismatched and Relaxed
This one’s for the bridesmaids. Opt for a casual, relaxed look with mismatched dresses, hair and shoes. This style is really chilled, giving your girls a little more freedom with what they can wear and allowing them to have their own style rather than all look the same. We adore this look!
#5. Sunflowers and Daisies
These summery flowers are perfect for a boho-chic festival wedding. Why not recreate the famous sunflower field at the Secret Garden Festival by pouring sunflowers down your aisle? Make daisy chains for the little ones to wear in their hair or around their ankles¦ Little touches using sunflowers and daisies will really give a true festival feel to your wedding (and a gorgeous bridal bouquet).
#6. Wellies
Now that it’s the peak time for festivals, you can shop for cool and quirky wellie boots everywhere. Whether you want colourful patterned wellies or prefer the classic Hunter Wellington boots, these are another must-have for festival weddings (and they make the cutest couples photo). Fill them with flowers to decorate your wedding signage, use them as centrepieces or on the bar!
#7. VIP Wed Pass
Invite guests to your wedding in true festival style with a Wedfest wedding pass! These ticket style invitations will excite your guests, giving them a sneak peek into your wedding day, a unique festival not to miss. Before you send the invites, why not send out some save-the-date wristbands to match? These double up as keepsake favours for your guests to remember your wedding.
#8. Wooden Signage
Creative, personalised signage will give an authentic festival feel to your wedding. Get imaginative with your designs from rustic welcome signs to light up BAR letters! Use individual picket-fence signs to avoid guests getting lost around your venue, with directions to the ceremony, bar, dancing and toilets, using quirky terms for each area to add some fun and personality into your signage. For example, instead of dancing write boogying or partying!
#9. Camper Van Bars
We absolutely love the idea of converting a camper van into a wedding bar! What a fun, novelty idea that will get your curious guests up and mingling. Whether you choose to serve beer, wine, cocktails or something different again, do so in mason jars or copper mules with paper patterned straws, this will up the festival style and add a little extra fun.
#10. A Bonfire to Keep Cosy
A little bonfire later into the evening when it might be a bit chilly adds a nice touch. Not only will it keep your guests warm, happy and mingling, it looks great and works wonders in photos! Why not have a smores bar with it to enjoy midnight snack? Grab a load of snug blankets and pop them in a basket with a ˜Keep Cosy’ sign for guests to cuddle up and be warm next to the bonfire¦
