Greetings!
Taiwan is a small island country 180km east of China with modern cities, traditional Chinese temples, hot springs resorts, and dramatic coastal terrain. Taipei, the nation's capital in the north, is famous for its busy night markets, Chinese Imperial art at the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, a 509m-tall, bamboo-shaped skyscraper with an observation deck.
Located among the complex tectonics of the Yangtze Plate, Okinawa Plate, and Philippine Mobile Belt Plate, Taiwan is the perfect place for mountain biking or taking day trips from the labyrinth of skyscrapers. Having spent my past summer evenings in Taiwan, I have produced a list of places you may go to in and around Taipei without needing to spend too much.

Many would have heard of Jiufen; however, apart from the typical tea sessions overlooking the hills and seas, you need to look out for a few other great eats when researching the smaller lanes. When you alight from the train or bus from Taipei City, there's a bakery near the interchange that sells Paris Baguette's replicated Royal Pudding. But this Egg Pudding is consumed directly from its shell and costs only approximately NT30.
Since many coffee shops worldwide are excited through the new fad of filtered coffee, there's a humble stall in Jiufen that delivers this exquisite beverage at an affordable price. Iced coffee during summer is the best remedy against the scorching heat.
The gold mines that were prosperous throughout the Western colonialism from the 1900s are turned into museums for the general public. I did not know much about mining, let alone being in a mine. Gold Mine Museum could be an ideal place for studying if you want to understand more about the market, or perhaps to touch actual gold!
This area in Taiwan is traditionally famous for its copper and gold mines. My eyes lit up immediately as the blazing sun reflected the gorgeous shimmers of this Golden Waterfall.
This was my favorite place as it's set against the Green Hulk-like Mt Keelung and overlooks the sexy Yin Yang Sea.
There's a scientific explanation for its attractive physical appearance. Though the gold and copper mines are no longer usable, the rain seeped into these mines amalgamates with the metallic residue. The chemical reactions result in this magnificent coppery Golden Waterfall.
All the water in the waterfall has to go someplace.
