Curaçao's role in the slave trade is identified deeply with their African heritage and is evident in their language and cuisine. Whether their ancestors came from Africa, the Netherlands, or both, most of Curaçao's population speak Papiamentu; the Creole language is derived from Portuguese, English, Spanish, Dutch, French, and African and Indian dialects. We're excited to be visiting this island and learning about their culture.
