Greetings!
Howdy, friends and family!
Thank you for visiting our Honeyfund page. Brandon and I wanted to tell you a little bit of our story.
In August of 2021, I moved back to Lubbock, Texas, to start my third (and last!!!) year of law school. By the end of the first month back, I had sat outside of the law school at the front tables to study and do my reading, and that led me to meeting the man who would soon become my husband.
Brandon and I would sit outside and talk, figuring out that we were more alike than either of us thought possible, and we learned that we made the best of friends. We started spending time together with our mutual friends: watching football, studying, hanging out on weekends.
Little did I know, that Brandon was from Florida, had gone to college in California, and wound up in Texas for law school. God quite literally brought me the man of my dreams!
Brandon invited me to try a new church with him in Lubbock before we started dating, and the sermon that first Sunday was on marriage. Specifically, the pastor said, "men, if you have a woman in your life who is beautiful, loving, kind, checks your boxes... marry her. Do not wait. Just marry her and let the Lord bless your marriage." And Brandon looked right at me.
A few more months passed, with us traveling together to Florida for part of Christmas break, Brandon flying to Corpus Christi to meet my family, and us spending every possible moment we could together.
Seven months from the time we met, on April 8, 2022, Brandon and I ran off to the courthouse and said "I do!"
But even this wasn't planned. I was competing in a national moot court competition that weekend, and three days earlier, Brandon and I joked that if I didn't win, we would go get married. This was a joke, because my moot court partner and I have been on a winning streak all year, so we expected to win this one too.
But, we didn't. We lost in the octafinal round in the morning on April 8, 2022, and Brandon and I got ready, grabbed a few of our friends, and ran on down to the courthouse about 45 minutes before it closed.
We walked out husband and wife!
Now, we're trying to establish our life together and set up for our future. Because my husband (still so crazy to say that out loud!!!) was smart and bought a home before he moved to Texas, we have moved in together and will stay in Lubbock for at least 2 years while he finishes law school.
This summer, I'll be studying for the bar exam, but we still would love to get away for a week right after graduation. We'll likely stay in Texas, but go somewhere for a mini-honeymoon to spend some quality time together before my summer gets consumed with bar prep!
If you would like to contribute to our honeymoon fund and helping us turn Brandon's bachelor pad into a home, you can donate below or send to Kayla's venmo: @kaylastaleyyy
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and we love you all so much.
