WHERE ARE WE GOING:
Honeymoon location: Istanbul, Turkey, Hawaii and The Maldives
Honeymoon location: Hawaii and The Maldives
Since Jon doesn't want to be on a 25-hour plane ride to the Maldives, we decided to make a pit-stop in Istanbul, Turkey on the way to the Maldives, and then at Hawaii on the way back to DC. Istanbul, Turkey - formerly Constantinople, seemed like the perfect pit spot - the midpoint between the East and the Western Hemisphere’s, and we want to see the Blue Mosque as well as enjoy a Turkish bath, enjoy Turkish coffee and delicious foods!
Then off the the Maldives where we will spend a few days just relaxing on the beach, parasailing, kayaking, and lounging in there sun.
We will hit Honolulu, Waikiki, Maui or Kauai on the way back to DC - we are open to suggestions to your recommendations on which Hawaiian island is the best!
But the highlight will be the Maldives. If you haven't heard of the Maldives - it is a small archipelagic state in South Asia, situated in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 700 kilometers from the Asian continent's mainland. The Maldive Islands are a series of coral atolls built up from the crowns of a submerged ancient volcanic mountain range. All the islands are low-lying, none rising to more than 6 feet above sea level. It is a country rich in history and known for its beautiful beaches - however, due to climate change and sea-level rise it may not exist for much longer- so we wanted to go see it before it disappears and enjoy the splendors of nature, relax on the sugar sand beach, and have a drink in a coconut with a little umbrella.
OUR STORY
Jon's from MI, Monica's from NJ and we met here in Washington DC in our Nation's Capitol. We met at Chef Kevin Tien's restaurant Emilie's - and Jon was amazed by Monica's ability to eat twice her weight in pasta, and Monica was delighted that Jon made her laugh with corny jokes. The real test for Jon wasn't meeting Monica's parents, or the rest of the family - it was Jon met Buttons and Mittens. Mittens (who basically hates everyone) climbed on Jon's lap, nuzzled him and meowed "I like him." Ever since then, Jon has remained Mittens' favorite person - and it's not because he rewards her with treats. We feel really lucky we found one another, make each other laugh, and through good times and bad, have always been able to lean on one another, and there's always time to dance in the kitchen, no matter how late at night it is.
