I am honored you will share in my story. I am A. Raqib Habibullah, a private employee earning IDR 1,850,000/month (about $127). I want to marry a girl whom I knew 7 years ago in grade 3 high school in 2014. Her name is Evi Karlina. We are in one class at the same school in Jakarta, Indonesia.

After finishing high school, we went to university, I majored in health analysts and my girlfriend majored in elementary school teachers. We agreed to get married after graduating from university. We graduated in November 2017.

Now we want to realize our dream of marriage. In December 2017, I met my girlfriend's father to ask permission to marry his daughter. He did not allow us to marry unless I had to fulfill his request. This request is called "Mahar" (dowry). My girlfriend's father asked for IDR 100,000,000 ($6800) and a car. Very expensive request.

I tried to fulfill his request. I work day and night. During the day I work as a health analyst and at night I work as a property agent, a diamond agent, a gold agent. I took this job because I knew this job could make money quickly. I also work on selling pulses, selling sausages, selling books, selling herbal medicines and others. But you know, everything failed, because looking for 9,000 dollars is not easy.

Feeling I could not fulfill his request, three months later in March 2018. My girlfriend's father lowered his request, he only asked for IDR 100,000,000 ($6800) without a car. I feel happy because my burden is reduced.

But you know, I'm just an ordinary person, maybe I need 10 years of work to get it, but I did not despair because Evi Karlina is my love, she is my breath, I love him very much. In December 2018, finally my girlfriend's father felt sorry for me, and he lowered his request, he only asked for IDR 50,000,000 ($3400). If I can fulfill it we can get married.

I am grateful that my burden has diminished. $3400 is still expensive, but I will continue to try to get it for my love. I love him and I fight for it. This is impossible but I'm sure I'll get it.
