Airport:
Christina and I will be flying into Puerto Vallarta International Airport (airport code: PVR) on September 1st and leaving September 5th. When you land I recommend ignoring the sales people and currency exchanges and ordering an Uber from across the street bridge from the airport like the below link “airport uber” shows from 00:30 - 1:50. With Uber you don’t need to arrive with pesos, know the cost up front, you get the same price as locals, and don’t need to tell the driver directions to find your drop off location.

Wedding day:
The wedding will be held on September 3rd from 5-9pm on the beach in front of the Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort. Our reception will be at their rooftop sky lounge or indoors if it rains. After the reception we will be going to CODE nightclub in the romantic zone with anyone who wants to join.
Where to stay:
I recommend staying in the hotel zone around the wedding resort or in the “romantic zone” at the southern end of the city. Christina and I will be staying in a beachfront villa a couple miles south of the romantic zone. AirBnB also has some great choices if you do not need the comforts and assistance of a resort.
Money:
The currency is Pesos. 20 pesos = 1 dollar. However; most businesses take credit cards or dollars so your pesos will largely be for buying souvenirs from street vendors, small businesses, and tipping. I recommend having your airport taxi or your first outing from your hotel be to a local bank with an ATM.
Getting around:
Try Uber because taxis dont always have meters and the driver will give you the price he thinks you will pay so at least check Uber for what your trip should cost before you negotiate prices with taxi drivers.
Google maps allows you to save offline maps (learn how at Google Maps link below) so consider saving Puerto Vallarta’s map so you won’t need wifi or a data plan while exploring the city.
What if I don’t know Spanish:
Google translate is the way to go. Download the Spanish language so you can use the app offline. It translates text, speech, and images so you can have translated conversations or hold your camera over menus and store fronts so you can explore the city without knowing more Spanish than tequila and fiesta.
Communication:
I have Verizon unlimited data plan and can pay $10/day to use my phone like normal in Mexico. You should check what your phones travel plan is for Mexico or use the app WhatsApp to talk/text when you have wifi.
Weather:
We are in the coastal jungle during the end of the wet season so expect hot humid days, and comfortable, but humid nights with strong, but intermittent rain mostly from 12-3pm. Bring light breathable fabrics, generous sunscreen, & umbrellas.
Covid:
You should not need any tests to enter Mexico, but you will need a PCR or antigen Covid test within 72hrs of boarding your departing flight to the US. You can find a testing site as you explore the city, ask your hotel concierge where they recommend or get tested at the airport before you depart. Airport tests are $25 and they recommend giving yourself an hour to get a test and receive results. Instructions and map in COVID TEST link below.
Boat day:
September 4th we plan to be setting sail from the Puerto Vallarta marina for a day of cruising the beautiful coastline. More information to come when the boat tour is chosen then I’ll get a headcount on who wants to join.
