Greetings!
Hello friends and family,
Anyone who knows us well, knows that we value experiences over things. It seemed perfectly fitting to defy the conventional wedding registry and have something that truly aligns with our love of travel and adventure.
We’re not always as decisive as we’d like to be, but one thing we both agreed on right away was that we wanted our next big trip to be in South America. Being self-employed has its perks, but vacation time isn’t one of them. There won’t be as many extended vacations as we’d like throughout our careers, so we want to use our honeymoon to fulfill our passion for adventure and leave the continent for a couple of weeks!
Why Peru? The Inca Trail is a 42km trek, which at some points includes hiking more than 4km above sea level, typically taking 4 days of non-stop walking/climbing, and finally leading you to one of the 7 wonders of the world - Machu Picchu. Altitude sickness is a real concern for some, but we are no strangers to a little trek at elevation. After chiropractic college, we travelled to South East Asia and hiked over 3.5km above sea level as we summited Mount Rinjani in Indonesia to witness one of the most sought-after sunrises you could imagine. Unfortunately, we had to imagine it too because of thick clouds and very poor visibility. Imagine hiking for 3 days up a mountain to see nothing but grey?! Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, we still agree that this was one of, if not the biggest highlight of our traveling careers.
So, the next logical thing to do of course, is to get warmer clothes (even in the warmest places in the world, at more than 4km above sea level, it’s freezing), to avoid getting food poisoning the night before (Dave had a rough first day on Rinjani), and to spend our “vacation” lugging our backpacks through thick jungle and mountains when most would normal people would be on a beach drinking rum. Call us crazy, but this is our idea of a dream date!
Because this trip means we will be leaving our patients for a few weeks, we have decided to wait until the fall to go on our honeymoon when we have a bit more time (and money!) and life is not as hectic as it will be in early May right after our wedding. We have decided to do a "mini-moon" for a few days directly after the wedding so we can soak in our first few days of married life together. We will be going to Prince Edward County (and bringing our puppy Moose with us!) for some post-wedding bliss and wine.
We know that this is only the start to a lifetime of adventures together as we begin the next chapter of our lives. Thank you so much for helping us make this dream possible.
Let the adventure begin!
xoxo
