Greetings!
Update 11/9/17, San Juan, PR
Hi friends, I am still accepting contributions as Puerto Rico continues to recover! So far we have $328.45 left in the fund, after the order for water filters, and I'm sure there is a lot more to be done here!! Thank you so much, every little bit counts!!
------
Hi everyone! I am planning to travel to Puerto Rico in less than 3 weeks and would like to bring suitcases full of water filters and solar lights. Even after one month, some people are still struggling and living in post-apocalyptic conditions. Most of my friends and former coworkers are still without power and internet/phone service, and some have gone on missions to the center of the island, where the situation is even more serious (contaminated water, sick/dying elderly...).
I would be extremely grateful if you could please contribute **whatever** you can to this fund so that I can purchase supplies to bring with me to PR on 2-3 checked bags (alternatively, please purchase the items on amazon to be shipped to me). I will personally deliver the supplies myself to those in need, or to friends that will know how to best distribute them.
I have asked for advice from friends in PR and they agree that water filters and solar lights are still very much needed. I have done the calculations below to try to maximize the volume of my two checked bags and 1 carry-on suitcases:
Sawyer Water Filter ($19.99 ea)
8 x 3 x 4 inches; V=96; 50 water filters in one checked suitcase; $999.50
0.5 lb; 25 lbs
LifeStraw ($19.99 ea)
0.79 x 0.79 x 7.87 inches ; V=4.9; 145 in one carry-on suitcase (assume about 1/3 of space); $2898.55
0.3 lb; 43.5 lbs
AIDIER Inflatable Solar Light ($11.99 for one; $45.99 pack of 4)
1.26 x 5.24 x 5.31 inches; V=35; 138 inflatable solar lights in one checked suitcase; $1654.62
0.26 pounds; 35.88 lbs
If I can manage to pack out my suitcases, I will either ship the rest of the supplies directly to PR (most post offices are open now thankfully), or donate the funds to charity (most likely Calvary Chapel Puerto Rico, who have done amazing work so far already: http://calvarychapelpuertorico.com/).
I will keep this page updated with any progress!! THANK YOU for partnering with me to help our fellow American citizens!!

Hola loves! I got an update on the expected shipment date for the 152 water filters (thanks again, SAWYER!) - Wed November 9! What should have been 2 day shipping has extended to at least a week now. Refuse to be nervous for too long, so please just send along positive vibes and prayers that we will receive the shipment in time before I leave for PR in a few days!
In any case, THANK YOU again for those that have donated so far! I hope you guys don't mind that I have made the executive decision to focus the majority of the funds on water filters, since purchasing them at cost and with affordable shipping was a good use of resources in my opinion. We have $284.04 left in the fund - I think I will go to PR and evaluate what else may be needed (lights, tarps), or go ahead and donate the rest to our partners on the ground over at RompeMonte (https://www.facebook.com/rompemonteporPuertoRico/).

Hi everyone! This is the last call to donate today to provide clean water and solar light to our people in need in Puerto Rico! Please consider partnering with me as I personally bring supplies there next week. Thank you so much!!
Quick update - I called Sawyer today off of a tip from a friend and confirmed that they are selling their water filters at a major discount (specifically for Puerto Rico relief efforts)!! So your donation is going a long way, and has essentially doubled!! Thanks to your $1166 collective donation so far, we can purchase 129 filters! Thank you SAWYER!!
