After much guessing about where we might or might not be able to go, we've settled on the Greek islands! We'll be away for a fortnight immediately after the wedding. As if it being our honeymoon wasn't enough, we're so excited to get out of the country and have a holiday after so long in London!
We'll have a week in Santorini, first spending a few days relaxing and admiring the stunning views out over the edge of the Caldera (the ancient volcano crater). Then we'll move onto the capital Fira to spend some more lively time exploring the restaurants, bars and shopping as well as exploring the rest of the island. Santorini is known for the ancient ruins of the civilization of Thera, and there is also excellent viticulture which we're keen to try out.
We'll then move on to Crete for the second week. We'll first go to Heraklion to visit the ruins of Knossos, before heading further east down the coast for a blissful few days soaking up the sun, sea and sand on the Gulf of Mirabello. After that we will get a car and drive back across the island, visiting places as we go, winding up in the old Venetian city of Chania in the west.
