While the wedding day is Saturday, August 4th, we will be arriving in Victoria, BC on Wednesday, August 1st. The few days prior to the wedding will be spent visiting the beautiful Butchart Gardens, whale watching, exploring the Royal BC Museum, pub crawls, castle tours and more! Feel free to arrive in the city at any time. From Wednesday through Saturday, we will be staying at the Fairmont Empress located in the heart of Victoria. Most of the activities are within walking distance of the hotel and we thought it would be the best location for everyone to get together for a few days before the wedding. We will be having a rehearsal dinner on Friday, August 3rd (Location TBD) and will have more details regarding this event as it gets a little closer. On Saturday, we plan to stay in the on-site bridal yurt and welcome you to stay at one of the recommended local lodges such as the Moonwater lodge (looks beautiful!). Don't worry about trying to do everything! We want everyone to simply come and enjoy their time on the amazing Vancouver Island and hopefully end up loving the area as much as we do. We can't wait to see you there!!
Additional Details for the Big Day:
*Arrival time of 4:00pm is firm. We want the Merridale crew to have time to get ready for us.
*Please proceed directly to the pond area that is reserved especially for us. We have agreed with Merridale to ask our friends and family to stay out of the farmhouse until 6:15, so they may set the area for our dinner reception. This will also allow them to continue service with their other customers so please don't enter until the designated time.
*You may want to consider your footwear as our wedding takes place on a farm; high heels may pose a challenge. The ceremony site is down a hill and the pathway is either gravel or grass depending upon the route you decide to take.
*Part of the beauty of the farm is the divergent landscape and not all areas area accessible by vehicles, including the ceremony area. If you have concerns about walking the pathway to the pond, please let us know as soon as possible.
*The orchard is a beautiful setting, but is a working farm. If you decide to take a walk, please stick to the marked paths, as the apple trees are sensitive to disturbances. The Merridale team has asked us not to pick the apples. They are not good for eating anyway and they use every last apple to make their cider.
*We will be serving drinks at the pond, so please take note that this is a licensed facility; therefore, bringing your own alcohol on site is not allowed.
*Our dinner will be served outside on the deck. The area is covered and heaters are overhead, but you may want to consider a jacket, sweater, or shawl. Merridale provides rolled blankets in the bistro area for those wanting a bit more warmth.
*Lastly, Merridale is a non-smoking property. In recognition of any smokers, there is one designated smoking area. Please look for the signs that mark the area where smoking is allowed when you come onto the property.
