Germany

Some relationships seem destined to be. Others, a happy accident. The former seems to be the case for us who had a romance that seemed fairly uncommon—or so we thought.

We met in 1977 while attending elementary school in Mannheim, Germany it is a vague memory for me as we played marbles, hung upside down on the monkey bars and played red rover with Mrs. Read. Ricky has no recollection of my existence or the games in first or second grade.

Returning back to the United States (Military brats) our next duty station was Fort Sam Houston and we once again at the same Elementary school. We became some what friends. According to Ricky and Larry Grey, he was in love with me and professed to Larry on the swings that he would marry me one day. Although we never really spoke to each other.

A few years later, I was returning from another over seas deployment with my parents and back to Cole High School. I heard Ricky had moved off base and then it happened again, I apply and start working at Red Lobster and there he was, a little taller, and even a little cuter. That summer he stopped by my house to asked me out. I can still see his kind, sweet face.

Time continues on and we continue to see each other through the years, Until one day, I received a call from sister (Mimi) she made the connection- we became friends once again and then love blossomed from there. We look back on all our parallel child hood memories and we were there all along.

“I didn’t believe in fate before but there’s no arguing with it—we’re clearly destined to be together!” For our Honey Moon, we are going back to where it all began, Mannheim, Germany.
