Spain and Italy
Help us go on our dream honeymoon to Spain and Italy! Our adventure will start in Spain as we explore Madrid and Barcelona. We hope to live in Madrid one day so our goal is to immerse ourselves and do as the locals do in a city of elegant boulevards and expansive, manicured parks such as the Buen Retiro. Then we head to Barcelona! Where else can you find thirteen Michelin-starred restaurants, nine World Heritage sites, some of the world’s most beautiful Gothic and modernist architecture and more than two miles of beaches in one European city?
For the second part of our honeymoon, we will journey through Italy!
First we're off to Florence. It’s unfair, really; any one neighborhood in Firenze possesses more architectural beauty and cultural capital than many of the world’s cities. And it’s all so accessible; a walk between the ochre dome of the Duomo and the arcaded galleries of the Uffizi, two iconic structures of the entire Renaissance, would barely leave a child winded. When we’re tired of of history (impossible, really), we will revel in the play of light across cobbled streets and the smell of fresh pasta dished out in sidewalk trattoria. So romantic!
Next, Rome! Just picture this - imagine crossing over the Ponte Fabricio, which spans the Tiber to the Isola Tiberina, signing at the exquisite beauty of it all, realizing that folks have been sighing after crossing this span since 62 B.C. (How cool is that!) The bridge has been in daily use ever since, and that’s Rome, folks: a city where the thread between ancient history, Renaissance art, baroque revival and modern cafes and galleries is self evident, lived in reality. Bonus: We've heard the pasta here is also amazing! Can't wait!
Lastly, we head to Naples and the Almafi Coast for some passion and relaxation! Perched on a ridiculously gorgeous setting curving around the Bay of Naples (have you seen pictures?!?! It's absolutely majestic!), Naples is the third-largest city in Italy is also one of the oldest continuously inhabited municipalities in the world. The city’s famed chaos is both an exaggeration and a draw; yes Southern Italians really are that passionate (what a perfect place for a honeymoon right??), and this spirit infuses their approach to Naples’ incomparable archaeological sites, museums, bustling cafes and great restaurants.
Writing this gives me the chills! We are so excited to go on this journey!
