In May of 2020, on a spur trail at Roan Mountain State Park, James and I went hiking through the Rhododendrons. James's original plan was to trek to the overlook but it was closed. Looking suspicious on the spur trail he stopped, turned around, and with his arms around me, lifted me up in an embrace. There in the forest full of green, James told me he was in love with me.

Feeling the moment completely, while looking down on the trail for a momento, I felt a bump underneath my shoe. It was a heart shaped rock! On an unexpected trail, at an unexpected time, we knew!
