Greetings!
Hello family and friends!
Three and a half years ago we got married at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, a decision made from many conversations about our shared goals and values. While we would have absolutely loved to share our wedding day with our family and friends, we knew our biggest goal was to one day have a home with land. We have a strong value of connecting with nature through stewardship and learning how to live more sustainably and in community.
When we started seriously looking for a home last year, we wanted a location that would be affordable, beautiful, and fare better in the face of climate change. Living in Milwaukee introduced us to living in a wintery climate and to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which happens to be one of the best places to "weather" the effects of climate change. After almost a year of searching, a modest home on 10 acres just a close walk from Lake Superior popped up. We jumped on it and were thrilled to be under contract this past February!
Our dream is to become stewards of this land by improving the home to increase its safety and comfort in the harsh winter months and to re-nourish the land and existing garden. Right now, our biggest needs are waterproofing the basement, adding a wood stove for supplemental warmth, replacing the decades-old windows in the bedroom, and ripping out the rusted sheet metal countertop (we know, what an unfortunate "gift" from the previous owner!). And of course we have a laundry list of other projects ranging from weatherproofing the rest of the windows and doors, repairing the damaged drywall, repainting the interior, and so on.
Faced with the enormity of these repairs, we knew we needed to reach out for support from our family and friends. In lieu of asking for a gift toward our wedding or a honeymoon, we're asking now for support toward the improvements in our home's safety and longevity. However your support shows up, be it purely emotional (which is priceless to us!) or financial, it's deeply appreciated and means more to us than our words could ever express. And of course if you ever find yourself in the beautiful UP, we would absolutely love the opportunity to host you here in our home!
Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts,
