Your Guide to an All-Inclusive Honeymoon on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula

If you’re seeking a romantic and exotic destination, look no further than Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Located in Eastern Mexico on the Caribbean Sea, this breathtaking region offers a perfect blend of stunning beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, vibrant culture, and luxurious resorts. The Yucatan Peninsula is a true paradise for honeymooners, offering a diverse range of experiences that cater to different preferences. Two popular Yucatan honeymoon destinations are Playa del Carmen and Cancun.

Why Visit Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula?

There are numerous reasons to visit Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. This captivating region offers a wealth of experiences and attractions that make it a must-visit destination for all travelers, especially honeymooners. From pristine beaches with powdery white sands and turquoise waters to lush jungles and cenotes (natural sinkholes), the Yucatan Peninsula boasts incredible natural beauty. It is renowned for its picturesque coastal towns and cities that offer a blend of luxury resorts, vibrant nightlife, water sports, and an abundance of dining and entertainment options.

The Yucatan Peninsula is also home to some of the most significant and well-preserved Mayan ruins in the world. Sites such as Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Uxmal offer a glimpse into the ancient Mayan civilization, allowing visitors to explore impressive pyramids, temples, and intricate carvings. It is also a playground for adventure enthusiasts. When you’re not relaxing on the beach or visiting ancient ruins, you can explore the region’s underground rivers and cave systems while snorkeling, diving, or swimming in the cenotes. Embark on thrilling eco-adventures such as zip-lining through the jungle, exploring ancient caves, or observing diverse marine life while scuba diving or snorkeling in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.

Yucatan Peninsula’s Culture And Customs

The Yucatan Peninsula is known for its warm and welcoming locals who take pride in sharing their culture and traditions. Explore colorful markets, immerse yourself in traditional festivities and celebrations, and witness vibrant performances of music and dance that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Language in Yucatan Peninsula

You may want to learn a little bit of Spanish when you’re traveling to Mexico for your honeymoon. Many people speak English, but it will be fun to say “please” and “thank you” in Spanish throughout your trip.

Currency

While credit cards and the U.S. dollar are widely accepted, it’s great to have some Mexican pesos on hand to use for smaller shops and daily expenses.

LGBTQ+ Community

Playa del Carmen and Cancun are popular LGBTQ+ destinations! Yucatan legalized same-sex marriage in 2021 and is a proud supporter of its LGBTQ+ community.

When Is The Best Time To Visit The Yucatan Peninsula?

The weather is ideal from December through April. But that’s also when you’ll find the most congestion — crowds spike highest around the holiday season as well as during spring break.

By contrast, May and June and September through November (including Día de los Muertos) are shoulder seasons, with fewer travelers competing for attractions, and discounted hotel room rates ready for booking. Note: September and October are also the wettest months, so pack an umbrella.

May through September are the warmest months, so pack expecting heat for your summertime visit. It’s not the only kind of heat that takes over the city: Expect a party atmosphere around July and August, when Yucatan is bustling with a spirited social scene and a jam-packed nightlife calendar.

Getting To And Around Playa del Carmen and Cancun

Fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN). From there we recommend using the resort shuttle services, Uber, hire a taxi or car service, or take the ADO bus line.

In town, the best ways to get around are by Uber, taxi or shuttle services.

Additional Travel Information

Passport and Visa Requirements

You’ll need a valid passport to visit. Your passport must be valid for six months from the date you leave Mexico to return home. If you’re staying for less than 90 days, you don’t need a visa.

Vaccinations

The Mexican government doesn’t require any particular vaccines to visit, however, it’s always a good idea to be up to date on standard US vaccines and consult your doctor before traveling.
