Our Love Story

In 2015 Shelby sat next to a stranger on a bus in Thailand. That stranger, named Steven, ended up becoming a life long friend that she would visit at his home in Hawaii soon after. The day she landed in Hawaii she met Steven's friend/coworker/roommate...Jamie. She immediately fell for this cutie covered in tattoos. It truly was a magnetic love-at-first-sight feeling, that she would have denied being possible, had she not experienced it. When Shelby walked in the door she was telling the story of her airport rental car fiasco and all Jamie could think was, "Who is this dynamic goofy girl with a southern accent?" At the end of the trip, just before her flight back home, Jamie took her on her first motorcylce ride at sunset. Both of them felt something there, and both of them were too chicken to say it. Shelby returned to Maui 3 years in a row to visit her now growing group of friends on the island. Jamie and Shelby stayed in touch over the years and flirtingly joked about living in a van with lots of dogs, (spoiler alert we are very close to that reality) but timing and distance were always in the way. They followed one another's solo travels and secretly wished they were in each new place together. Fast forward to 2020: Jamie has moved back to the mainland to be closer to his family in New Jersey. Shelby posts about having an extra ticket to see the Lumineers in Nashville and Jamie takes her up on it. That concert became their "first date" (finally!!) and the rest is history. If they both learned anything from the beginning of their adventure it is to lean into vulnerability and be brave enough to tell others when you love them.
