Italy
We don't need to describe Italy. It's that country shaped like a boot, aiming a kick to Sicily that would likely sever the Iberian Peninsula and flood most of the known world. It also has pasta and pizza and far too much tomato in its cooking.
Fortunately, it also has a rich history that we would love to explore. Whilst you can sneeze in any archaeological dig site in western Europe and discover something Roman, we would very much like to see if the Romans actually left anything behind in their homeland. Visiting Rome would make the most sense, being the namesake of the Romans, but we would also like to visit Venice and Florence and other places that Joel only really knows from playing Assassin's Creed. Laura, the cultured one, has always dreamed of visiting Pompeii and it's less well known cousin, and mass grave of the Roman 1%, Herculaneum to see the ancient ruins left behind following the eruption of Vesuvius. I think we can all agree that nothing spells romance like visiting the ash filled grave of 16,000 people and that is how we intend to spend our honeymoon.
We may do traditional honeymoon things, beaches, romantic meals, vampire chess, but we are more interested in spending our time exploring places we have always wanted to see. For every romantic gondola ride, there will be a ghost tour of the Roman catacombs or a visit to an ancient gladiatorial arena. I'm aware that our honeymoon has a worryingly large amount of visits to sites of mass death but these people died centuries ago which makes it totally okay and not something to put us on a watch list.
Any contribution towards this dream would be greatly appreciated, be it the cost of a meal, or a tour of an historical site.
