Greetings Everyone! Due to the economic difficulties of the Covid pandemic, we unfortunately had to downsize our "Big Day" to a very "Intimate Day" in the backyard of our dear friend Trudie Petersen. Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful night and we could feel the love from all our family and friends as they watched the live stream. Many of you have reached out about gifts. Dan and Karl / Karl and Dan When it comes to Dan and Karl, the fates were mischievous. And the universe joined right in. For the last thirty years they’ve been weaving in and out of each other’s orbits – sometimes oblivious, sometimes aware. For some of us, that was enough time to date, marry, raise kids and send them off to college! But for Karl and Dan? It was enough time to become the men they’ve become – the man each of them was destined to be. So, it makes perfect, mischievous sense that the universe saw fit to slowly bring those orbits closer together, let gravity’s pull do its thing, and let these two glorious men finally dance on the same stage – happily married. Most of you know their history – but let’s look at it together for just a moment… Karl and Dan were both Kids of the Kingdom in the summer of ’91, but never in the same cast. They both performed at Tokyo Disneyland, lived in the same American Village cast house, in the same bedroom, but three years apart. Dan and Karl both performed in the European tour of West Side Story – played the same role – but in different years. Both performed on Broadway in 1995 – Karl in Cats and Dan in Hello Dolly – but never saw each other or connected in that tight Broadway community. They even lived within 4 blocks of each other – Karl on 49th and 9th and Dan on 45th and 9th, and never ran into each other on the street. Fast forward to 2011. Dan relocates back to Orlando. Karl follows in 2018 – both with the goal of reconnecting with friends and re-explore career opportunities. And they did. Successfully. Finally – after years of being sculpted by life and the universe, their orbits became one. April 27th, 2019. A warm Sunday afternoon with friends. The ubiquitous group photo opp. Karl reached over and placed his hand over Dan’s. A simple gesture – but one with enough sparks to set this next chapter in motion. Their first date was May 17th, 2019 at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue – and yes, they both danced on that stage in the role of Johnny Ringo, but never at the same time. And it was that evening, amid the laughter, music, food and song, when both knew that the magic at their table was real – and that they had finally come home. But the fates still had some mischief up their sleeves – mischief in the form of two car fires, two hurricanes, a global pandemic complete with shut-downs and quarantines, job lay-offs, job furloughs – all in the span of 18 months and all experienced within a 700 square foot condo with two cats… make that three cats, as of last September. After all that? The logical next step was to get engaged. So, they did – on the one-year anniversary of their Hoop Dee Doo adventure, creating a Quarantine Version of the revue, complete with fried chicken, a YouTube production of the show, ZOOM cameos with friends who re-enacted their roles. Dan and Karl even stood and danced to “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” a trademark of the show. And a trademark for who they both are – in their lives, and in our lives. So that’s the history of Karl and Dan, and today marks the moment their future truly begins together. Personally, I can’t wait to see what the fates will serve up next. It’s bound to be a hell of an adventure.
