A few years ago, my kids introduced me to the idea of a “Golden Birthday,” when your age matches the day you were born. I loved the concept and told them that for their Golden Birthday, they could choose a destination and we would take a trip together. To me, it was a win-win! Not only an excuse to travel, but a chance to celebrate who they are at that moment in time. Somehow, two years went by in a blink, and my baby is turning 13 and celebrating not only her Golden Birthday, but her Platinum Birthday too: 13 on the 13th, born in 2013! I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have asked how they can help make this dream a reality. We’ve created this page for anyone who would like to contribute. Any support, whether a contribution, a kind message, or simply following along, means more than we can express. When choosing the destination for her "Golden Birthday," Paige said instantly that she wanted to go to Italy. She has never changed her mind and has been doing Duolingo every day to learn Italian. Not only does our family have roots there, but she has always felt drawn to its history, beauty, culture, and, of course, the food! I love the thought of sharing this experience with her and connecting her to a piece of her heritage in such a meaningful way. We are starting the trip with a special stay in Venice to celebrate Paige’s birthday and then taking a train across Italy to Naples where my mom’s side of the family is from. We will spend the majority of our time exploring towns along the Amalfi coast with a quick trip to the island of Capri.
