• Rental Car Upon Arrival

  Once arrived in town, we plan to rent a car to schlep our belongings to our new apartment, acquire basic furniture, and explore the local roads, trails, neighborhoods, amenities, lakes, and fjords!

• Travel Lodging

  We are taking the trip in several days to allow for entering Europe, entering Norway, and entering Tromsø to each get the time, attention, and wiggle room they may need.

• Travel Snacks

  Snacks to sustain us on our trek to Tromsø! Perhaps some meatballs? Waffles with jam? Or the famous Kvikk Lunsj (a chocolate bar, that, amazingly, translates to "quick lunch")?

• First Tromsø Dinner Out

  A night out on the town to celebrate arriving in our new home!

• Monthly Transit Pass

  Help us get around the city! All-access pass to the city's extensive (and, apparently, clean, reliable, frequent, timely, and pleasant) bus system. We anticipate bussing at least daily!

• Tromsø Culture Pass

  Help us explore our new home! This pass grants entrance to a variety of museums across Tromsø. We hope to take a couple days upon arrival to get introduced to both the city's layout and rich history.

• Living Area Furnishing

  Comfy couch, coffee table, lamp, dining nook, desk, dog bed... we'll see what we can fit and in what arrangement!

• Bookshelf Fund

  We will be leaving behind many books as we jump across the pond - help us replenish our shelves with beloved tomes.

• Kitchen Items

  Unfortunately, pots and pans don't travel well in a suitcase, so we will be starting from scratch for our kitchen setup!

• Tromsø Alpinpark Pass

  Season passes (yes, really!) to a local ski hill, 1500 vertical ft, featuring 3 T-bars, terrain for all levels, and a simple cafe with snacks & hot chocolate. A 15-minute bus from anywhere in town!

• Monthly Tromsøbadet

  Membership to a gym offering a variety pools: indoor and outdoor; hot and cool; for laps, lounging, and play. Also features saunas and a rock wall! We intend to bask in northern lights & midnight sun.

• Monthly Dinner Date

  We would love to get to explore the city's supposedly excellent food scene, and know that, with all going on as students, we will value dedicated time to go out together and enjoy!

• Cross Country Skis

  Help outfit us to explore our new home on skis! We gather that this mode of transit is as common a way get around town as it is a way to recreate. We hope to enthusiastically partake, in both!

• Cross Country Ski Boots

  No use in skis without boots! Only one set set listed, as Emma already has a pair. :)

• Cross Country Ski Poles

  Who knew ski set-ups required so many pieces? (I, Eli, gather most people did, in fact, know this, especially when your spouse grew up in a ski town. Alas.)

• Local Winter Boots

  We will be bringing our best boots, but are waiting to replace some well-worn boots until we see what locals tend to choose. Nothing like a brand that the locals swear by.

• Mountain Bikes

  We are looking forward to biking around our neighborhood, on both roads & trails -- and we have recently started bringing Elfi along, as she loves to pull, and hard! Looking for decent used bikes.

• Pulling Harness for Elfi

  We plan to skijor and bikejor with Elfi often, and possibly try other types (she ADORES it, and wow does tire her out!). She needs a well-fitting specialized harness to do it safely and frequently.

• Dog Toys for Elfi

  Elfi is a pampered princess, and will certainly be in need of a bucket full of toys. Her favorites will be traveling with us, but there is only so much suitcase space for stinky worn out bits of rope.

• Dog Treats for Elfi

  Elfi requires delicious and persistent bribery in exchange for behaving like a civilized member of society, and we gather the dogs up there have some high standards for good manners...

• Bones for Elfi

  You may get the sense that Elfi accounts for a notable portion of our time, effort, & budget. Your sense is correct. We have been advised not to be "those people." And yet here we are!

• Used Banjo

  Emma loves to play and Eli loves to listen.

• Used Guitar

  Both of us love to play, and listen, and sing along.

• Art Supplies

  Many of our extensive art supplies will be finding new life in AK homes, schools, libraries, etc. We hope to replenish a small and versatile collection of paints, brushes, pens, paper, canvas, etc.

• Game Shelf

  Board games travel poorly, but we would love to own a few to share with new friends!

• Posters & Prints

  Both of us thrive in a home that FEELS like home, and hope to find some prints to liven up our walls and make the space feel like OURS, even in surroundings that are otherwise largely unfamiliar.

• House Plants

  We have become dedicated plant-tenders, and have learned which plants can thrive through a very dark winter! Having the vivid green of life in our living space is huge for buoying our energy, too.

• Movie Date Nights

  Movies at the local theater are apparently a great deal, and we look forward to enjoying it!

• Dancing Nights Out

  Tromsø supposedly has a thriving night scene and, while neither of us is infamous for late nights out, we do hope to see what the hype is about, especially if it means connecting with new friends!

• Floating Sauna & Dip

  Downtown Tromsø (like many coastal Nordic cities) features a sauna floating in the harbor, so we can warm up, jump from the sauna directly into the arctic fjord, and climb right back up again!

• Tool Box

  Better to replace the tools for basic maintenance needs than to carry such heavy pieces across the pond. We don't use many, but want to have the essentials!

• Paper Maps

  We intend to venture widely around a region that is among the most remote in the world, and figure we would be wise to acquire and carry paper maps for both roads and trails.

• International Postage

  We anticipate wishing to send some packages full of love from across great distances!

• Warm Winter Vacation

  When we are on winter break, and the polar night is in full force, we hope to take a week away, perhaps to the Mediterranean, to soak up some warm sun!
