Book your Jamaican honeymoon

This entry is from our Expert Guest series where wedding and honeymoon professionals share their best tips on creating memories that last a lifetime…

You and the love of your life finally did it! You’ve tied the knot, and you’ve earned your honeymoon in Jamaica. All you want now is to have an island drink in your hand, and your toes in the sand. Before you go, you might be wondering what to throw in your suitcase. If you want to avoid telling your new spouse “Jamaican me crazy with all this packing,” pay close attention because I’ve got the full rundown of many things you should include on your packing list!

Packing List For Your Honeymoon To Jamaica

Preparing to travel

First, the bare essentials…

It’s a Caribbean island, mon, so you know you’ll at least need the following:

  • Passport, driver’s license/photo ID, airline tickets, travel insurance information, and other travel docs (note, it’s a good idea to bring backup copies of all of this that you store in a separate place from the originals)
  • Bathing suits (but, how many? If you’ll be there between 4 and 7 nights, between 2 and 3 should be plenty and give you time to dry between use)
  • Cash and credit cards (bring plenty of $1 and $5 bills for tipping and shopping)

Bring your beach accessories

  • Sunscreen (depending on the size you might need to check it, but make sure you have enough for every day you will be there with multiple applications because sunscreen is pricey in tourist spots)
  • Flip flops/sandals (and water shoes for those waterfall hikes and excurious you might enjoy)
  • Tennis shoes
  • One pair of comfortable evening shoes that you can wear each night to dinner (leave your stilettos at home though)
  • Beach bag
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, lip balm, etc… Fun fact – some non-resort style hotels don’t have shampoo, so be sure to check your hotel’s list of amenities to determine if you need to bring anything else)
  • Camera and/or video camera
  • A hat and sunglasses for yourself and spouse

Plan your daytme wardrobe

  • Day clothes such as shorts and t-shirts, and night clothes such as pants and nice tops (how many outfits will depend on the number of days you are there. As a general rule you should at least pack enough underwear and socks for every day, but it’s best to pack outfits that interchange with other pieces to wear them multiple days in a row and save room in your luggage.)
  • Pajamas, unless well, um, honeymoon…

TRrael essentials

Don’t forget the following either

  • All medicines you’re currently taking. Prescriptions out of the states could cost big bucks! And, keep them in their original packaging. You don’t want to have to throw out your birth control at customs because it wasn’t labeled (yes, this can happen!)
  • Cell phone and electronics chargers
  • A universal power converter (you may want to check in with your hotel to see if this is a need, but it’s better safe than sorry when your battery is down to 2% and you have 5 days left with no way to charge anything)
  • Razors and shaving cream

Don't forget your techology

Now, for the things often not thought of…

  • Headphones so you don’t disturb anyone while listening to your electronics (especially your new spouse late at night, in addition to tuning out those crying kids you might be near)
  • A pen (put it in your carry-on, trust me, you will need it)
  • An insulated cup or mug, and a water bottle (especially helpful if you’re staying at one of those cheaper all-inclusive resorts with those tiny, flimsy cups that never keep your drink cold long enough)
  • Luggage locks (security never hurt anyone)
  • A tablet with games and books downloaded to it (and don’t forget the backup battery!)
  • A sweater (nights can get chilly with that ocean breeze)
  • An umbrella (if you’re going in the rainy season)

This is not an exhaustive list. There may be additional items you need to add to your personal packing list for your honeymoon in Jamaica. However, I hope this has at least got the wheels in your head turning. Create your own list and stick to it so your honeymoon will be that much sweeter.
