Wedding tent

This entry is from our Expert Guest series where wedding and honeymoon professionals share their best tips on creating memories that last a lifetime.

Since we’re coming up to festival season, we thought those of you planning an alternative wedding would appreciate a little ˜wedfest’ inspiration! Festival-style weddings are really popular this year and with the trend growing, there are more and more quirky ideas to incorporate into your fun fiesta! We can’t wait to show you our top tips to create your own festival wedding¦

Creating Your Festival-Style Wedding

#1.   Flower Crowns

Flower crown
From Secret Garden Party to Bestival and Wilderness, flower crowns are everywhere! Wearing flowers in your hair is a must-have for the festival bride. Not only do they look amazing, but they complement pretty much any hair style be it short, long, up, down, braided or untouched. You could opt for a statement flower crown filled with blooms or a more subtle, delicate one with dainty florals

#2.  Bunting

Whether it’s traditional triangular, made of crochet, fabric tassels or something different again, bunting can transform your venue – it really adds to the whole festival vibe of the wedding and will bring the look to life. It comes in all colours, shapes and sizes so get creative with your décor and let your imagination run wild. Wherever you choose to use it, hanging from trees, inside your giant tipi (definitely!), tied to the backs of chairs or to create mini bunting cake topper, be sure to include it in your day!

Wedding tipi

#3.  Tipis

What would a festival wedding be without a giant tipi reception?! Your guests will have so much fun partying the night away in one of these beauties. They are so versatile in their structure and the options for decorating them are endless¦ Use festoon lights and wild flower garlands to frame the entrance, adorn the wooden poles with fairy lights or colourful scarves, have a chill out area with a fire pit in the centre to toast marshmallows. Why not hire a smaller tipi and create a photo booth with festival props for you and your guests to enjoy into the evening?

#4.   Mismatched and Relaxed

This one’s for the bridesmaids. Opt for a casual, relaxed look with mismatched dresses, hair and shoes. This style is really chilled, giving your girls a little more freedom with what they can wear and allowing them to have their own style rather than all look the same. We adore this look!

#5.   Sunflowers and Daisies

These summery flowers are perfect for a boho-chic festival wedding. Why not recreate the famous sunflower field at the Secret Garden Festival by pouring sunflowers down your aisle? Make daisy chains for the little ones to wear in their hair or around their ankles¦ Little touches using sunflowers and daisies will really give a true festival feel to your wedding (and a gorgeous bridal bouquet).

Wedding wellie

#6.   Wellies

Now that it’s the peak time for festivals, you can shop for cool and quirky wellie boots everywhere. Whether you want colourful patterned wellies or prefer the classic Hunter Wellington boots, these are another must-have for festival weddings (and they make the cutest couples photo). Fill them with flowers to decorate your wedding signage, use them as centrepieces or on the bar!

Wedding pass

#7.   VIP Wed Pass

Invite guests to your wedding in true festival style with a Wedfest wedding pass! These ticket style invitations will excite your guests, giving them a sneak peek into your wedding day, a unique festival not to miss. Before you send the invites, why not send out some save-the-date wristbands to match? These double up as keepsake favours for your guests to remember your wedding.

Wooden sign

#8.   Wooden Signage

Creative, personalised signage will give an authentic festival feel to your wedding. Get imaginative with your designs from rustic welcome signs to light up BAR letters! Use individual picket-fence signs to avoid guests getting lost around your venue, with directions to the ceremony, bar, dancing and toilets, using quirky terms for each area to add some fun and personality into your signage. For example, instead of dancing write boogying or partying!

Camper bar

#9.   Camper Van Bars

We absolutely love the idea of converting a camper van into a wedding bar! What a fun, novelty idea that will get your curious guests up and mingling. Whether you choose to serve beer, wine, cocktails or something different again, do so in mason jars or copper mules with paper patterned straws, this will up the festival style and add a little extra fun.

#10.   A Bonfire to Keep Cosy

A little bonfire later into the evening when it might be a bit chilly adds a nice touch. Not only will it keep your guests warm, happy and mingling, it looks great and works wonders in photos! Why not have a smores bar with it to enjoy midnight snack? Grab a load of snug blankets and pop them in a basket with a ˜Keep Cosy’ sign for guests to cuddle up and be warm next to the bonfire¦

Planning your honeymoon after your April wedding? If you want to make your wedding trip the vacation of a lifetime, expand your horizons to include some the most beautiful places in the world. Our list includes some April honeymoon destinations you’ll love.

Visit The World’s Top 10 April Honeymoon Destinations

Marrakesh, Morocco,

The desert might not be your first thought when it comes to picking a honeymoon destination, but head to Marrakech in April when this imperial city is at its finest and you’ll soon know you’ve landed in a romantic and beguiling wonderland.

April is the perfect time to visit Marrakech, as the weather hovers between the mid-70s and -80s and springtime ushers in an abundance of colorful blossoms that dazzle surrounding landscapes. The extraordinary architecture, bustling souks, charming streets, and world-class cuisine appeal to those looking for a vivid sensual experience without sacrificing the intimacy you get from the city’s many private, lush, and trendy hotels. Date ideas: indulge in a cooking class, wander the medina by foot, take a day trip to the foothills of the Atlas mountains, or bask poolside in the sun with a fresh glass of Moroccan mint tea.

gGalapagos Islands, Ecuador

For the thrill-seeking & nature-loving couple, we would be remiss if we didn’t suggest a trip to the Galapagos Islands. This wild and flourishing archipelago ushers in an abundance of newborn wildlife and lush flora in April; snorkel alongside your partner and a group of playful sea lions, explore islands on horseback, kayak tandem through crystal-clear waters, enjoy a romantic sunset dinner and dance to the music of the island birds. At the end of the day, dock your catamaran at a charming port city and stay the night at one of several unique hotels and resorts scattered throughout.

Paris, France

What list of springtime travel destinations would be complete without Paris? Paris in the spring has been painted, sung about, and written about the decades over. In the words of famed writer Henry Miller, When spring comes to Paris, the humblest mortal alive must feel that he dwells in paradise. No words could be truer of the City of Light, as Paris seemingly awakens from winter hibernation, shaking off the slumber and giving way to warm dappled sunlight, pink blossoms, and festive vivacity as the cold melts away. This city truly shouts love at the top of it’s lungs come spring, and would be nothing short of romantic and enchanting for a honeymoon getaway.

Bali, Indonesia

This island paradise has something for everyone. For those looking for some post-wedding R&R, stay at one of the island’s countless resorts, which usually offer romantic dining experiences, peaceful spas and private beaches. For those wanting an adventure, explore Bali’s beautiful ancient temples, go on a hike, or take a dip in the vibrant blue waters. Keep in mind that while April is Bali’s dry season, this means peak tourism for the island. Book your hotel early to avoid over-priced rooms!

Bora Bora

There’s a reason this island paradise is nicknamed the ˜Jewel of the South Seas’ — vibrant turquoise waters, citrusy sunsets, white sands and the sweet sounds of jungle birds are what set the scene for romance on this Tahitian gem. As April is right before high season, the month is a perfect time to avoid tourists and crowds and instead enjoy quiet pristine beaches, perfect weather, and lower rates on hotels and resorts. Take your lover by the hand and breathe in the warm tropical air before you dive under gentle waves that reveal coral reefs teeming with sea life and shipwrecks to explore. End the night with sunset seaside drinks and a relaxing session at the spa.

Toyko cherry blossoms

If you’re looking for a more metropolitan experience but don’t want to sacrifice relaxation and romance, Tokyo may be your best bet! The weather is temperate and the city’s world-famous cherry blossoms bloom for a few days during March and April, when visitors flock from around the globe to view the spectacular phenomenon. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride under the cherry trees or a rowboat through petal-strewn waters, watch a traditional Kabuki performance, challenge yourselves to a hike up Mt. Fuji, take a day trip to Hakone to soak in the natural hot springs (called onsen), or catch a ride on the Tokyo Bay Dinner Cruise to enjoy the city lights from a luxury yacht!

Costa Rica

Although San Jose is the capital of this Central American tropical destination, Costa Rica is most known for its sprawling beaches and wild jungles, not to mention it’s one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. Head to the coast or peruse through the jungle to take in everything that this astounding landscape has to offer. April enjoys a dry season, ideal for hikes through the spectacular rainforests, sunbathing on the sandy coast, swimming alongside sea turtles, taking a dip underneath a waterfall, exploring Mayan temples, and cultural excursions to some of the many fiestas and festivals that take place this time of year!

Cape Town at night South Africa

South Africa’s Cape Town offers an ideal time for newlyweds to visit in April – autumn in Cape Town – which marks the beginning of the annual wine harvest. For oenophiles, this means the opportunity to take part in the actual harvesting and juicing of grapes at the wineries in Cape Towns famous wineland. For those not interested in vino, Fall is still a great time to visit as temperatures average around 70ËšF and hotels lower their prices as low season approaches. Pack a picnic and catch an open air movie, explore the South African wilderness, or wander through a food, wine and/or cheese festival, as they are bountiful this time of year!

Seville, Spain

This 2,000+ year-old city in the southern Andalusian region of Spain breathes heat and romance. Stroll through narrow streets hand in hand, marvel at the magnificent Moorish architecture, take a break for tapas, pinchos and a cerveza or vino, and don’t forget to catch a flamenco show, as Sevilla is the birthplace of the world-famous art form. April is a truly beautiful time of year to go, as balconies overflow with orange blossoms and bougainvillea, spring breathes color into the tree-lined streets and plazas, and the city comes alive for it’s amazing Easter celebrations. For couples that enjoy sightseeing, rich history, unbelievably delicious cuisine and plenty of cultural activities, Sevilla is absolutely the place for you!

Palawan, Philippines

Rightly named The City In A Forest, much of Puerto Princesa’s appeal comes from it’s dedication to environment and wildlife conservation. The magnificent Philippine province of Palawan is considered a sort of last frontier as it is virtually untouched and unspoiled in comparison to the rest of the archipelago – Puerto Princesa has been internationally recognized as one of the cleanest and greenest cities, so if you’re looking for pristine waters, lush landscapes, wildlife encounters, and an intimate surrounding free of tourists that makes you feel like the island was created for you and your partner, then consider this island oasis for the ultimate outdoor zen getaway. Kayak and snorkel through jutting spires of stone, snack on halo halo while taking in the sun, or take a tour of the famous underground river – one of the longest in the world!
