FAQs

What is a honeymoon registry? How much does it cost?

A honeymoon registry is like any other bridal registry—it's a list of gifts you've requested. Except instead of going to a department store and scanning houseware items, you create an online list containing parts of your honeymoon (see our Sample Registries). Some people call it a honeymoon gift registry, or a travel bridal registry. In any case, you are asking your guests to give you the gift of a memorable honeymoon.

While most honeymoon registries charge up to 9% in fees, Honeyfund is absolutely free to you and to your guests. We don't believe in transaction or setup fees, or mandatory travel purchases.

Do I have to purchase travel through Honeyfund.com?

No! You're completely free to make your own travel plans. Honeyfund.com is not a travel agency nor do we require you to use any affiliated travel agency.

How do we receive our honeymoon gifts?

Like other bridal registries, your guests search for your registry and select one or more gifts from it. But instead of paying by credit card, they print a purchase certificate and mail it to you along with a check (or bring it to the wedding). This saves you and your guest money on costly credit card fees, and allows guests the satisfaction of giving you something tangible. Unlike other services, Honeyfund.com doesn't keep your money until just before your trip. Your gifts will stagger in during the weeks leading up to your wedding.

What if I really want my guests to have the option to pay by credit card?

Unfortunately there's no way to do this without incurring a fee. (Believe us, we really tried!) But there is a low-cost way you can accept credit cards payments from your guests: PayPal. Their transaction fees are very reasonable and you can sign up for a free account in minutes (note you will need a "Premier Account" to accept credit card payments). Then, when you set up your Honeyfund registry, just click Use PayPal and enter your PayPal e-mail address. Guests will be instructed to click a PayPal link and make their credit card payment as they would for any other web purchase, without needing a PayPal account. You'll receive the payments immediately into your PayPal account, directly from your guests. We never handle your money.

Is Honeyfund safe for me and my guests?

Honeyfund is very safe because we never handle your money. All transactions happen directly between you and your guests. If you choose to use PayPal, Honeyfund redirects guests to PayPal's website where they make payment directly into your PayPal account using PayPal's secure servers. Honeyfund also uses secure servers to collect and store your personal information.

Your personal information is also safe thanks to ScanAlert's Hacker Safe certification. Honeyfund.com was also recently awarded the Better Business Bureau's Online Reliability seal.

What if we don't receive most of our honeymoon registry gifts until the wedding? How will we pay for our honeymoon travel reservations?

We recommend you set some funds aside to make your travel reservations. You can reimburse yourself as the gifts come in. Some couples book their travel on a credit card that can be paid off after the wedding. It's also smart to start your honeymoon a day or two after your wedding so you can deposit any last-minute gifts before you leave.

What if we don't receive enough money from our honeymoon registry to pay for our entire honeymoon?

You'll want to think about how many guests are attending that might be open to contributing to your honeymoon and do a rough estimate. Most likely people will surprise you with their generosity. Just make sure you get the word out by notifying guests of your Honeyfund web page (you can use Honeyfund's Send to Guests feature to e-mail them). And most importantly, make sure you have a backup plan in case you don't receive enough to cover the entire cost of your honeymoon.

Are honeymoon registries considered proper etiquette?

Yes! Although you may want to check out our Wedding Registry Etiquette page to see if it's the right choice for you and your wedding guests.

Is Honeyfund easy for my guests? What if my guests aren't Internet savvy?

Honeyfund makes it easy for wedding guests to purchase your gift. They simply select a gift from your Honeyfund web page, enter their name and e-mail address, and follow the simple payment instructions. They even receive a purchase confirmation e-mail along with a reminder to make payment if they haven't already.

While we think this process is pretty simple, we realize some people just aren't Internet savvy. We suggest these folks contribute money directly to you, or find someone else to make a Honeyfund purchase on their behalf. Your designated contact person (like a bridesmaid, groomsman or family member) should be able to answer guests' questions about how to contribute and offer assistance if needed. If you use an invitation insert to announce your Honeyfund web page, you can print this person's info along with your personalized Honeyfund.com URL (see our Wedding Registry Etiquette page for more on invitation inserts).

Finally, if you have other wedding registries, it's never a bad idea to spread the word for those guests who prefer to give a traditional gift (see our Wedding Registry Etiquette page for more on other registries).

How is all this free?

Honeyfund was started with a vision: A free online honeymoon registry with no strings. Since we don't believe in charging couples or their guests, how do we do it? Like other Internet businesses, we sell advertising space on our website. Many of our advertisers offer services you need for your wedding—like flowers, cakes, catering, music, even travel. This way, you get a free honeymoon registry and a little help planning your wedding too!
